Advancing Macomb hosted the first gathering for our new Trustee group at the Rock Room at the Emerald Theatre in Mount Clemens on April 24.
The Trustee group was formed to provide a civic-focused, social club for business leaders throughout the county. With monthly gatherings at venues throughout Macomb, these events allow participants to engage with one another and Advancing Macomb board members to leverage their influence strategically around specific issues.
The Advancing Macomb board identified a need to bring a group of local executives together to connect and focus on local and regionally significant economic development issues, through discussion, leadership connections, and allocation of resources toward agreed upon initiatives.
Many of Michigan’s millions of residents are not familiar with Macomb County or what we offer. They don’t know Macomb is one of the largest resources for engineering, manufacturing and defense talent in the state and, perhaps, the country. They don’t know we are home to the Clinton River, connecting six communities and providing easy access to water recreation for residents and visitors, or that we have an abundant agricultural base that is both an economic driver and natural resource. Some don’t even know that access to the Great Lakes sits right in our own backyard!
Advancing Macomb provides an opportunity to change that and open our doors to the rest of the region. Together with our board, trustees can help fix what is broken, enhance what is neglected or undefined, and then share our enviable assets with our Southeast Michigan neighbors, as well as to our friends throughout the state, the Midwest and maybe even around the country!
Trustees make a base annual contribution to the organization, which offers Advancing Macomb the ability to host monthly events. These events give the members an opportunity to meet other like-minded leaders to start changing how Macomb County is seen in the region and throughout Michigan. Trustees may host events at their business to highlight their work to the group.
The next gathering with be on June 13th with Tom Brisse from McLaren Macomb to learn about their $68 million investment.
