Amorie Smith is Advancing Macomb’s intern for the summer of 2018. At 18 years old, she is a graduate this year from Warren Mott Highschool. She will further her education at Michigan State University studying psychology and journalism. Amorie’s interest in psychology stems from her empathetic abilities and is intrigued by the inner workings of the human brain, its triggers, and how one makes decisions. Journalism is another passion of hers that will allow her to express herself both vocally and through writing. There is some belief that psychology and journalism are black and white but, she believes the two can co-exist. Amorie’s passion for journalism is inspired both by a close relative, who is a multimedia news reporter in St. Louis, and her dream to be on TV to present new information and ideas. She would like to become more involved in the community of Macomb, Detroit, and some day across the world to tackle issues such as hunger, slavery, deportation, health, and animal abuse.
