Mount Clemens “Play Everywhere” Call for Artists

Posted on January 14, 2019

Advancing Macomb, in partnership with the City of Mount Clemens, the Anton Art Center and the Macomb Family YMCA, has released a call for artists to design and manage the installation of four separate public outdoor paintings.  This project will execute the vision of the KaBoom! “Play Everywhere” challenge to bring “play to unexpected but everyday spaces, making it easy and available for kids and families.”

David Girodat, Chair of the Advancing Macomb Board, notes “The partnerships involved in this project are fundamental to the mission of Advancing Macomb. We continue to look for opportunities in the community of Mount Clemens as we work to facilitate engagement in communities across our county.”

The site locations will be at the Macomb Family YMCA, on the stairs leading to the Clinton River near Northbound Gratiot and Cass Avenue, at the Anton Art Center and an alley off Macomb Place near Cherry Street. The artwork in the four locations should encourage engagement and participation in the spaces while highlighting Mount Clemens history and the city’s connection to the Clinton River.

The project also calls for local volunteers and artists to work on the project installation in conjunction with the design artist.  Installation of the project will occur in the spring of 2019.

Barb Dempsey, Mayor of Mount Clemens, commented “We are looking forward to engaging the community in the process of this Play Everywhere project. I think it will create another bright spark in our downtown area and be an attraction for residents and visitors alike.”

Applicants may submit a proposal for the entire project or for one individual location.  The deadline for submission is January 22. Details of the Mount Clemens “Play Everywhere” call for artists can be found on advancingmacomb.com/projects/ or by e-mailing Angela Lenda at angela@advacingmacomb.com.
