As part of Advancing Macomb’s mission to help Macomb County grow as good place to live, work, and play, we began our #ManufacturingMonday Twitter campaign to promote the strong manufacturing community in the county. Since December 2017, Advancing Macomb has been taking to Twitter on Mondays to highlight local manufacturers. Macomb County has a wealth of manufacturers in a variety of industries – automotive, aerospace, defense, industrial, agricultural, etc. The goal is to make these companies more visible to our community and to others in the industry.
The companies themselves are varied in their social media presence – from divisions of global companies such as Axalta and Ford who have communications departments (and budgets) to single location small manufacturers who have created a basic website. In the tweets, we share information about the company, their history, their community involvement, apprenticeship programs, and recent news. In doing so, we show the breadth of capabilities in Macomb County and give some positive promotion to the companies that are the backbone of our community.
The majority of the companies that have been featured in this campaign have been participants in the Macomb County Manufacturing Day, a program organized through the Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development and the Macomb Intermediate School District. Manufacturing DayⓇ (MFG Day) is an initiative produced by the National Association of Manufacturers and the Manufacturing Institute and celebrated in communities across the country.
Locally, Manufacturing DayⓇ introduces students to career opportunities, that may not have been on their radar, through visits to area manufacturers. The event allows companies to show off their facilities, their employees, and the things they build to give students insight into what modern manufacturing really looks like.
The next Manufacturing Day is October 5, 2018. The Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development is seeking additional companies to participate in this year’s program. Advancing Macomb is a proud sponsor.
Follow Advancing Macomb on Twitter or search #ManufacturingMonday to learn more about our local manufacturers. If you are a manufacturer, reach out to let us know about your news, we would happy to spread the word!
