Show Me the Money Day Highlights Financial and Community Resources

Posted on March 13, 2024

Advancing Macomb and the Eastpointe Memorial Library partnered to hold a Show Me the Money Day (SMTMD) event on Saturday, March 9, 2024. This free event was designed to provide community members with access to essential financial products, resources and workshops in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.

Eastpointe and Macomb County residents were encouraged to attend to take a proactive step toward greater financial well-being with the goal of building a more economically empowered community. In addition to the financial information, attendees were treated to refreshments, giveaways, and activities as a reward for their participation.

Show Me the Money Day events are hosted by Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM) members each year. The events promote opportunities to save, increase income, and build assets. These events bolster a statewide movement to remove economic barriers and advance financial empowerment.

“We were excited to bring this financial education and community resource event to area residents. Advancing Macomb strives to support these types of community connections and we are pleased to have partnered with the Eastpointe Memorial Library to bring Show Me the Money Day to Eastpointe.’” said Angela Lenda, program manager of Advancing Macomb.

The day’s workshops focused on providing practical information and financial education. Community Choice Credit Union provided steps for debt reduction as well as tips on protecting and planning for the future, ChoiceOne Bank provided insights on buying a home, and library director, Sue Todd, gave an overview of the many ways you can save money by using your library.

Participating resource vendors included:
Ageways Nonprofit Senior Services & Michigan Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program
CCA Health of Michigan (Medicare)

Survey results revealed that an overwhelming 80% of participants felt more hopeful about their financial future after attending Show Me the Money Day.
