Held at the picturesque Youngblood Vineyard in northern Macomb County, the evening brought together civic leaders, nonprofit professionals, business partners and community supporters to celebrate the organization’s recent accomplishments and look ahead to what’s next.

Macomb Daily, May 4, 2025 - Small and growing nonprofit organizations in Macomb County are encouraged to apply for Advancing Macomb’s Capacity Building Grant Program, a new initiative that aims to help charities fulfill their mission. “Smaller nonprofits often face barriers to securing funding for behind-the-scenes improvements that are essential to long-term success,” said Phil Gilchrist, executive director of Advancing Macomb, which convenes resources to solve community challenges and enrich the lives of Macomb county residents. “This program aims to fill that gap by investing in the internal strength of organizations doing critical work in our community.”

Starting May 1, 2025, small and growing nonprofits in Macomb County can apply for grants of up to $5,000. Crain's Detroit Business, March 24, 2025 - Advancing Macomb has launched a “boot camp” program aimed at strengthening nonprofit capacity in Macomb County. With stronger operations, nonprofits will be more likely to attract funding for programs and services, something that’s lacking in the county compared with other parts of Southeast Michigan, according to a report from the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University. “It’s about strengthening the nonprofit sector in Macomb County,” said Phil Gilchrist, executive director of Advancing Macomb.
