As the new Executive Director of Advancing Macomb, I am grateful for the opportunity to lead this organization. I am inspired as I look to the future. We have tremendous opportunities to expand Advancing Macomb’s reach throughout Macomb County, and we are already getting started.

Crain's Detroit Business, March 20, 2024 - Macomb Foster Closet is set to expand its services for foster and adopted youth and families from a newly acquired site in Mount Clemens... Research that Advancing Macomb completed with the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University showed Macomb County's nonprofit sector is under-resourced and under-developed, said Phil Gilchrist, executive director of Advancing Macomb, an agency working to increase nonprofit capacity and leverage resources to assist on complex issues in the county. “Small nonprofits in the county need support and resources to be more impactful in their missions and more successful as organizations,” he said. “Access to affordable co-working space establishes new sector infrastructure in Macomb County and helps create an environment for nonprofits to grow and thrive.”...

Through the Nonprofit Spotlight series, Advancing Macomb highlights the work of a Macomb-County-based nonprofit. This month we feature Lakeshore Legal Aid. Lakeshore Legal Aid is a not-for-profit law firm providing free legal services to individuals who have low-income, older adults aged 60 and above, and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Lakeshore assists with a wide variety of civil legal areas, like housing issues, family law, consumer law, protection from abuse, education advocacy, estate planning, public benefits law, and more.

January 27, 2024 - Macomb Daily - Motor City Rockers’ hockey jerseys appear to be a hot commodity. Even the ugly ones. That is evident by the donations that the minor league professional hockey team has been making to local charities. Among the latest recipients is Advancing Macomb, a nonprofit organization that works to solve community challenges and enrich the lives of community members, which received a donation of $1,500 during a home game at Big Boy Arena in Fraser. The donation was garnered through an online auction of jerseys designed to look like ugly Christmas sweaters that players wore during a home game sponsored by Bell’s Brewery.

The short walk down Macomb Place only takes a few minutes at a solid clip, but few people’s trips match the magnitude of Phil Gilchrist’s. The executive director of the Anton Art Center for eight years, Gilchrist has traded his spot at one nonprofit for another to become the executive director of Advancing Macomb.

Evident by the turn of events over the weekend, including Sunday’s announcement that Phil Gilchrist, who headed the Anton Art Center for the past eight years was leaving to pursue new endeavors, which includes becoming Advancing Macomb’s new executive director. "There are tremendous opportunities for Advancing Macomb to grow and strengthen its nonprofit capacity building and community development efforts,” said Gilchrist. “I am excited to lead Advancing Macomb into this next chapter.”"
