Lake St. Clair Appreciation Day with Macomb Chamber

Hosted by the Macomb County Chamber, the eighth annual Lake St. Clair Appreciation Day Boating event was held in July. The Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development and several local agencies who have a vested interest in the success and sustainability of Lake St. Clair, including MacRay Harbor and New Baltimore, helped organize the event.

Innovation Grants at Macomb Community College

In July, five early-stage businesses from Macomb, Oakland and Washtenaw counties received $275,000 in funding in the inaugural round of awards from the Innovation Fund Macomb Community College, Powered by JPMorgan Chase. Receiving $25,000 grants were AQUASIGHT, Rochester Hills, for a real-time intelligence solution for water pumping systems to identify performance issues; GAP Quality Systems, Southfield, for an automated process for inspecting chrome-plated and high-gloss painted parts; and KTISIS, Sterling Heights, for a composite container system to enable fleet vehicles to use either compressed natural gas or liquefied gas. Receiving $100,000 awards were Ann Arbor companies MyFab5, for an online marketing platform that streamlines social media marketing for restaurants, and TurtleCell, a maker of a thin-profile smartphone case with retractable headphones.

THE coLABorative, a business incubator and co-working space, has announced as its newest tenant Advancing Macomb, a non-profit committed to investment in and promotion of Macomb County. “Illustrating our mission to promote and enhance Macomb's assets, THE coLAB is ideal space for Advancing Macomb,” said Melissa Roy, Advancing Macomb’s Executive Director. “THE coLAB is full of local entrepreneurs with a commitment to our community.”

Advancing Macomb advances with new director

A former assistant Macomb County executive has a new job, but the same goals: advancing the county’s economic and community development. Melissa Roy has been named executive director of Advancing Macomb, a nonprofit organization comprising leaders from across Macomb County who those involved say are focused on creating long-term economic opportunities and sustainable communities.

Advancing Macomb Announces Executive Director

Advancing Macomb – A group of leaders from across Macomb County have come together to set an agenda focused on creating long term economic opportunities and sustainable communities. Today they announce their new executive director, Melissa Roy. In July of 2012, Macomb County Executive, Mark Hackel asked local community and business leaders to create an entity that could drive community and economic development for the county. Modeled after organizations like Detroit Renaissance and Grand Action, Advancing Macomb (AM) – a 501C3 private non-profit – was launched in June of 2013 and now in the spring of 2015, has established an office in Mount Clemens and secured the executive director services of Melissa Roy.

C&G Newspapers: Leadership group invests in Freedom Hill park

Taking the initiative was a walk in the park recently for a group of county business, nonprofit and civic leaders. Members of the Leaders Advancing Macomb board gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Oct. 20 at Freedom Hill County Park in Sterling Heights. According to its members, LAM strives to improve the county’s communities and their ability to help residents do business, innovate, have fun and more. The group recently announced that it spent around $25,000 to upgrade Freedom Hill’s playground amenities, landscaping, walking paths and storm water system.

The Macomb Daily: Business group donations improve Freedom Hill park

A new business group dedicated to improving Macomb County’s quality of life announced their first contribution on Monday –- a playscape and other improvements at Freedom Hill County Park in Sterling Heights. Leaders Advancing Macomb, or LAM, unveiled the playground area plus new landscaping, accompanying brick walkways and a new underground drainage system to prevent the park flooding of the past. The new features are located just south of the Freedom Hill Independence Building near the park entrance, west of the outdoor concert theater.
