Advancing Macomb Partners with Macomb County To Bolster Nonprofit Organizations

Mount Clemens, Mich. (May 13, 2024)—Advancing Macomb, a 501c3 that convenes resources to solve community challenges and enrich the lives of Macomb County residents, has partnered with Macomb County Planning and Economic Development (MCPED) to provide resource navigation and technical assistance for local nonprofit organizations in 2024. The partnership was approved as part of the County’s 2024 budget. Through the agreement, Advancing Macomb will serve as a bridge, connecting 501c3 charitable organizations in Macomb County with a wide range of local, regional, and statewide programs and services. These include opportunities such as available grant programs, volunteers, in-kind professional services, data, marketing and planning services, all designed to enhance the capabilities of nonprofit organizations.

Nonprofit Spotlight: Turning Point

Through the Nonprofit Spotlight series, Advancing Macomb highlights the work of a Macomb-County-based nonprofit. This month we feature Turning Point. Turning Point provides assistance to more than 10,000 survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence and human trafficking each year, including survivors like “Laura,” who experienced multiple layers of abuse from a domestic partner for many years.

Nonprofit to add co-working space in new Mount Clemens home, program expansion

Crain's Detroit Business, March 20, 2024 - Macomb Foster Closet is set to expand its services for foster and adopted youth and families from a newly acquired site in Mount Clemens... Research that Advancing Macomb completed with the Dorothy A. Johnson Center for Philanthropy at Grand Valley State University showed Macomb County's nonprofit sector is under-resourced and under-developed, said Phil Gilchrist, executive director of Advancing Macomb, an agency working to increase nonprofit capacity and leverage resources to assist on complex issues in the county. “Small nonprofits in the county need support and resources to be more impactful in their missions and more successful as organizations,” he said. “Access to affordable co-working space establishes new sector infrastructure in Macomb County and helps create an environment for nonprofits to grow and thrive.”...

New bridge will span spillway

Mount Clemens-Clinton-Harrison Journal | Published March 14, 2024 - HARRISON TOWNSHIP — A new way to cross the Clinton River Spillway will soon arrive. Harrison Township is building a new pedestrian bridge to connect the spillway along Jefferson Avenue, budgeting $3.45 million for the bridge and associated walkways. The pedestrian bridge will supplement the existing bridge at the mouth of the spillway, which is designed for automobiles and challenging for nonmotorized traffic to safely cross.

Lakeshore Legal Aid is a not-for-profit law firm providing free legal services to individuals who have low-income, older adults aged 60 and above, and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Lakeshore assists with a wide variety of civil legal areas, like housing issues, family law, consumer law, protection from abuse, education advocacy, estate planning, public benefits law, and more.

New pedestrian bridge over Clinton River to link miles of trails along Lake St. Clair

Crain's Detroit Business - February 28, 2024 - Plans for a new pedestrian bridge along the Lake St. Clair waterfront in Harrison Township are moving forward with a $1 million grant from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation. When complete, the new crossing over the Clinton River spillway will improve pedestrian safety and provide a new link in the Great Lakes Way trail system, a developing series of greenways and water trails stretching from southern Lake Huron near Port Huron to western Lake Erie near Toledo.

Advancing Macomb Awarded $1 Million Grant From The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation To Build Pedestrian Bridge Over Clinton River Spillway

Mount Clemens, Mich. (Feb. 22, 2024) – Advancing Macomb, a 501c3 that convenes resources to solve community challenges and enrich the lives of Macomb County residents, was awarded a $1 million grant from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation to build a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the Clinton River Spillway in Harrison Township. The grant was awarded in partnership with the Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development. It will be added to other funding sources to complete the project. The estimated cost for this project is $3.5 million, and construction is expected to begin this year.
